pregnancy week 27 developmentHelp your baby develop in the twenty-seventh week of your pregnancy

By week 27, your baby’s taste buds are more sensitive. Consume more nutritious foods now to give him or her a healthy start in life.

What’s happening this week?

Your baby’s lungs, brain, and digestive system are continuing to developi and his or her hearing gets better every day – your little one may even be able to distinguish your voice from all the other sounds he or she hears.

With the steady growth of each previous week, your little one now measures a little over 14 inches (36 centimeters) from head to toe and weighs two pounds (875 grams)ii.

What can you expect?

While it can get embarrassing, passing gas frequently occurs among many Mums-to-beiii.

Make your third trimester a comfortable one and manage excess gas with these tips:

  • Monitor your diet. Certain food may trigger flatulence. Avoid fried, fatty and spicy dishes as well as carbonated drinks, as they can increase gas production.
  • Eat slowly so you don’t swallow excess air that may lead to increased flatulence. Also, try to eat smaller meals throughout the day.
  • Exercise. Even taking a walk after a meal can stimulate digestion, and decrease the likelihood of passing gas. Remember to consult your doctor before doing any exercises during your pregnancy.

What can you do to support your pregnancy?

With your baby’s developing taste buds, expose him or her to a variety of foods even while still in your womb. Continue to eat a balanced diet for your and your baby’s overall health.

If you haven’t already, why not consider joining a prenatal class? It’s a good time to do so as it will offer plenty of guidance on the labor and birth process, and prepare you for the upcoming big day. It’s a good way for your partner and/or a close family member to also learn about what exactly will happen during the birth process and how to support you through it.

Even though you might feel silly talking to your baby right now, rest assured that he or she can hear you and is comforted by your voice and touch. All this helps in the growth of his or her IQ and EQ right from the womb.
